2Baba, Natasha and Annie: Time to Look Inward

2Baba, Natasha and Annie: Time to Look Inward

The latest reported issues involving 2Baba and Natasha Osawaru have again pulled Annie Macaulay into a conversation she did not start. Rather than turning another difficult chapter into woman against woman, Nigerians should keep the spotlight on the one person connecting both stories. After two marriages and years of relationship controversies, the question may no longer be what is wrong with Annie or Natasha. Perhaps the bigger question is what 2Baba needs to understand about 2Baba.

One fact must remain clear before the social-media court delivers judgment: 2Baba and Natasha are still married. People may discuss whatever issues appear online, but they should not announce a divorce that has not happened. Their marriage deserves an opportunity to work through its challenges without spectators writing its obituary.

2Baba Marriage: What Has Really Changed?

For years, whenever 2Baba and Annie experienced marital problems, attention often shifted towards Annie’s emotional reactions. People gave less attention to what produced those reactions. Now Natasha occupies the position Annie once occupied as 2Baba’s wife. Yet Nigerians are again discussing the woman while the same man remains at the centre.

“When different women face the same problems with the same man, maybe it is time to stop blaming the women and lokk at the man”

2Baba’s Greatness Does Not Cancel Accountability

Greatness should never prevent honest reflection, especially when similar questions keep returning around different relationships. This is not about turning 2Baba into a villain or pretending either woman is perfect. The man at the centre deserves the same level of scrutiny that people routinely give the women. Accountability becomes meaningful only when we examine everybody fairly and consistently.

This recurring pattern deserves reflection, not another scapegoat. That simple shift may help the conversation become fairer, calmer, wiser and more useful.

Annie Yesterday, Natasha Today

The greatest mistake Nigerians could make now would be transferring Annie’s harsh treatment directly to Natasha. Otherwise, we would have watched season one, learned nothing and returned for season two blaming the newest cast member. Natasha remains 2Baba’s wife and deserves grace. Marriage is not Big Brother Africa, where viewers vote one woman out every Sunday night.

The harder question belongs to 2Baba. If similar turbulence appears across different chapters of a man’s life, changing the woman may not solve anything. Examining the man could be more useful than avoiding the real conversation.

Two Marriages Are Enough Reason to Look Inward

2Baba has married twice, first Annie and now Natasha. His current marriage remains intact, but there is enough history for honest self-examination before any future life-changing romantic decision. Besides, our beloved 2Baba has blessed us with enough glorious children to carry the Idibia name into another generation. There is no national emergency requiring applications for Mrs Idibia Number Three. Nigeria already has enough recruitment exercises without another matrimonial vacancy.

What 2Baba may need more than another wedding photographer is reflection, honest counselling and what corporate people call an internal audit. Before evaluating another candidate for life partner, perhaps management should first review the organisation.

“Changing the woman without examining the man is like changing mechanics every time the same warning light returns.”

2Baba Should Work on 2Baba First

That is why this moment should not become another trial of Natasha or a victory parade for Annie. Instead, it should allow 2Baba to grow and decide what kind of man he wants to become.

This is not the moment for 2Baba to choose between Natasha and Annie. Natasha remains his wife. His responsibility should be to understand himself and confront whatever patterns may have followed him across relationships. He should also make every effort to resolve whatever difficulties genuinely exist.

If a healthier 2Baba discovers Natasha remains the woman who best complements him, he should protect that marriage. He should build something strong enough that Nigerians become bored waiting for season three. If the marriage ultimately ends despite sincere efforts, he may someday look backwards. Then he can ask whether the woman who understood him most deeply was Annie.

”Sometimes the problem is not the person beside you, but the person you have refused to become”

Even then, Annie is not a suitcase left at the airport while somebody travels around the world. She would still have every right to decide whether the man returning is somebody she wants again.

African Queen or African Auntie?

Borrowing from African Queen, perhaps someday 2Baba must decide who genuinely fits beside the man he becomes. One may fit as his African Queen. Another may occupy a different place in his story, with affection and dignity, as his African Auntie. For now, Natasha is his wife. Therefore, nobody should hold a premature coronation ceremony for Annie.

“Before 2Baba searches for another African Queen, perhaps he should first introduce us to a better 2Baba”

2Baba has given Africa unforgettable music, an extraordinary career and enough beautiful children to carry the Idibia name proudly forward. Perhaps the greatest personal composition remaining for him is composing a better version of himself.

Before worrying about who should be his African Queen or African Auntie, our music legend may first need to produce the remix capable of changing everything that follows: 2Baba featuring a better 2Baba.
